
The state of Arizona takes a very strict stance on unpaid child support. In 2016, Arizona initiated the Deadbeat Parent Initiative which aims to shame deadbeat parents into paying child support by posting their names, pictures, and the amount they owe on social media and the Department of Economic Secruity's website. This move has seen great success.
In 2017, Arizona passed legislation to allow at least a parent who is six months or more behind on child support to have their driver's license partially suspended or denied. This places restrictions on where the parent can travel, but it still allows deadbeat parents the ability to still get to and from work so they can earn money to pay what they owe.
Any parent can be deadbeat, not just dads, but because the vast majority of those who owe child support and refuse to pay are men, the term has stuck
